The Dior Backstage Face & Body foundation comes in 40 shades -16 intensities and 6 undertones - and will set you back $40. The foundation claims to provide a flawless complexion with buildable coverage. It also claims to be waterproof and resistant to extreme conditions while providing a second-skin finish. I tried out the foundation and here are my first impressions.
The Dior Backstage Face & Body foundation is priced at $40 and comes in a 50 ML container. Given the amount you get and the brand name, this is a reasonably priced foundation. It is available at Sephora, Harrods (international shipping available) and on the Dior website. I got the shades 6N and 7N as samples as part of a Sephora promotion but both shades are unfortunately too dark for me. On a positive note, this attests to the brand's inclusivity. There are 8 shades darker than the Dior Backstage 6N and for that shade to be too dark for me, it means that a lot of dark-skinned women will be able to find their shade match.
As a woman with problematic skin - hyperpigmentation and acne scars - I gravitate towards medium to full coverage foundations. In order to achieve that, Dior recommends applying two layers of foundation to get medium coverage and three layers for full coverage.
I found that the Dior Backstage foundation will give you that "your skin but better" look. The foundation gives a nice subtle glow that makes your skin look healthy and hydrated. It blends really easily and layers beautifully. The finish remains natural no matter how many layers you apply but it has a slight stickiness to it even hours after application.
As expected, one layer provided some glow but not much coverage. Two layers covered more dark marks but not enough in my opinion. I was much happier with a third layer as my scars were much less visible and my skin looked really smooth but, in my opinion, it looked more like medium coverage rather than full. Another thing I noticed was that no matter how much product I applied, my face retained its dimensions and never looked flat. This is great because it means you won't have to follow 50-11 steps to get some warmth and depth back. However, if you're like me and have eyebags and dark circles, you will have to go in with a concealer to get the job done.
This Dior Backstage Face & Body foundation has a beautiful finish and shade range but I will not get a shade match and buy the full-sized product. I recommend it to people with a minimalist makeup routine and who have little to no imperfections. For people with problematic skin, even though the finish is glowy and very natural, it is not worth shelling out $40 because you can get this look with cheaper priced products that will also offer more coverage. Moreover, a little does not go a long way and you will have to apply at least three layers to get decent coverage. This means that you risk going through the bottle quickly and it does not seem worth it to me.
