Must Have Products For Oily Acne Prone Skin

list of products to get rid of acne and oily skin

People with oily skin-prone skin have a hard time finding the right products for their skin type. I, therefore, made a list of amazing products that help me manage my acne and oily skin.

To be transparent with you my acne got so bothersome that Accutane was prescribed to me. However, here are some products that did help prior to and during the treatment - more on that in another blog post. One thing that is sometimes overlooked by acne and oily skin sufferers is the importance of moisture.  Your oil glands will produce less oil if you stop using overly drying products. You need to find the perfect balance for your skin to flourish.
I now have a minimalist skincare routine. It consists of a non-medicated soap and a moisturizer on a daily basis. I also use, on a weekly basis, exfoliants to get rid of hyperpigmentation and acne scars.
Below you will find products for oily skin to get rid of acne, acne scars, and hyperpigmentation. I have used every single one of them and recommend them.
Please note to not use all these products at once and exfoliants should only be used 2 to 3 times a week max.

Facial Cleanser:
  • Neutrogena Hydroboost Cleanser ($8.99): A cleanser with hyaluronic acid, which is a moisturizing agent. Your skin will be left soft and plump. I often found it unnecessary to moisturize afterward.
  • Roger Cavailles: A non-medicated cleanser that helps moisturize your skin.
  • African Black Soap ($5.99): It is a soap made of several oils that target oiliness and hyperpigmentation. It can be very drying so make sure to moisturize!
Exfoliant/Mask:
  • Mario Badescu Glycolic Foaming Cleanser ($16): Glycolic acid is well known for its exfoliating properties that promote skin cell renewal and reveals a hyperpigmentation free skin. I highly recommend it if you want that Summer-time glow while getting rid of your blemishes.
  • The Ordinary 5% Lactic Acid: At such a low price point, you can't go wrong! I personally saw results within my first week of using it. My skin was smoother and some marks were starting to fade. It is a powerful product so please do not use it every day and don't forget your sunscreen!
  • The Body Shop 3 in 1 Wash Scrub Mask ($22): I love this product as a mask! It has really helped me stay matte over days and my face feels really clean after I wash it off. It is very drying so don't use along with other drying products.

Moisturizer:
  • Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizer ($14-28): This is a gel-like moisturizer perfect for oily skin. It will not clog your pores and will not make you look like an oily mess at the end of the day.
  • Effaclar Duo (Plus) ($20): Very lightweight cream with a low salicylic acid percentage that helps fight off blemishes while keeping you moisturized.
  • Embryolisse: Don't let the thick consistency deter you from this gem! A little goes a long way and it will not make you oily or clog your pores! I've been through 2 small tubes so far and I love it!
